rasta pasta

Both Omniman and I adore pasta, so we try to have it once a week--not more often because we know it's important to eat a varied diet, but certainly never less often. Last night, I made this rotini tre colore with grape tomatoes, peas, arugula and masses of garlic in a base of best quality extra virgin olive oil. The colors--red, green and yellow[ish] and the dreadlock-like rotini reminded me of the Rastafarian community on Caye Caulker, Belize, so I named this dish in their honor. The sweet, mellow, and salty flavors, combined with the peppery arugula and fruity oil made for a surprisingly complex dish. The best thing about it? Only 20 minutes to prepare. [Take that, Rachel Ray.]

Most people associate veganism with the stereotype of an austere, ascetic diet. I personally associate veganism with hedonism.

Hedonism! That is the best. That's a great new mantra for goin' veg...

Hey, U.V., lovin' that rasta pasta. Now THAT's what i call groovy food. Like you and Omniman, i'm also huge fan of pasta, especially the rotini that comes in three colours. i also adore angel hair pasta... usually followed by devil's food cake :)

That's a gorgeous bowl of pasta, so colorful and light. I should eat pasta more often--it's become one of those rarely eaten foods for me, even though I adore it.

I was a picky eater as a child and refused to eat green foods.

One time, I was staying at my Uncle's house and he prepared tri color pasta. They made me sit at the table with a blindfold on and do taste tests.

It was a traumatizing experience at the time and no doubt contributed to my jaded persona ;)

Don't make Rachel Ray angry.

You wouldn't like her when she is angry.

You are so disciplined, we sometimes have pasta... well, let's just say a little too often. Your rasta pasta looks magnificent and summer-y. I do associate veganism with food hedonism because I know how to cook so much better since going vegan- my food horizon is so much bigger!

All this talk of rastas & hedonism makes my over-commercialized mind think of the Jamaica commercial...one love...
