don't cry for me, I was in argentina ::

Take the finest facets of the great urban centers--the Haussman-style grand boulevards, architecture and cafe culture of Paris; the civility and dolce vita of Rome; the tiled interiors and late-night, laid-back dining schedule of Madrid; the energy of Manhattan--toss them together gently, and you have Buenos Aires.
The city has a tarnished beauty, more reminiscent of Europe than South America.
Is it Paris...or Buenos Aires?
Sevilla....or Buenos Aires?
These colorful houses punctuate El Caminito, the neighborhood where tango was born.
Depending on the expertise of the dancers, tango can be sexy or campy. [Love the Brill cream and fishnets.]
This angel watches over Recoleta, the cemetary where Eva Peron is buried.
This is the terrace at Malba Museum of Latin American Art.
Antique seltzer bottles for sale at the San Telmo flea market...
Omniman was in heaven when we saw a soccer match--Boca Juniors, the legendary South American champions, versus Lanus. [0-0] I was frisked--twice--by armed policewomen in full riot gear. Security was tighter than at the airport.
What would Argentina be without a protest? Americans could learn a few things about this dying art from the Porteños.
We spent a day in Colonia, Uruguay. The quality of the light and stillness were a tranquil reprieve from buzzing Buenos Aires.
Navigating the cobblestone streets [and doggy doo] was an adventure...
Wherever I go, animals always find me. While drinking tea in a cafe in Colonia, this kitty curled up on my lap [and made me miss Bossa Nova even more than I did]. A few hours later, a stray dog curled up against me at an outdoor cafe.
Honestly, being vegan in meat-loving Argentina was not easy--but it was not impossible. Stay tuned for the Buenos Aires food recap tomorrow.

Bon retour ma belle!
Fantastic pictures. Thank you for sharing. Seems like a beautiful place to visit.
Bonne nuit à toi aussi!
Oh, what a great post!! Your photos are gorgeous. It's so funny that you posted about your chance meetings with animals... i was gonna post about Peter's and mine from our last month's trip... a Piscean thing, perchance?
Those buildings are all incredible. i love the very colourful ones! Stunning!
You are radiant with the kitty, i'm so glad you got to go and enjoy. And thank you for sharing...
How fun for Omniman to catch a "futbal" (soccer) game there... not surprised about the double frisking since live futbol-watching can be hazardous, even in the USA!
i feel like i was there! You captured the feel of Argentina beautifully!! Can't wait for the food recap.
WELCOME BACK, U.V. (and Omniman) i've been missing you - and i'm sure Bossa Nova is stoked to have you back in town...
Gorgeous photos. I thought Paris too, when I saw those first ones. No surprise that the animals recognized your spirit of compassion and were drawn to it!
Awesome pics!
Great to have you back! I love pictures of houses and buildings and yours are really great. And the bottle picture absolutely amazing.
Wow! What a charming city. Now I want to go.
Wonderful and gorgeous! I love the architecture- the wonderful mix of european, colonial, and local styles. And one of my favorite parts of traveling is seeing the local animals too! It's like a piece of home to pet a cat or dog when you're thousands of miles away.
Good to have you back!
I love those houses, gorgeous colors! Can't wait to hear what you found to eat in the land of beef!
That looks amazing!! I always love seeing photos of your adventures!
Welcome back! Great photos; makes me want to go there now.
We're off to Slovenia today. Can't wait!
Welcome home.
Your photos are beautiful. They make me want to travel.
Beautiful pictures!
Thanks for sharing.
great post!
One of my favorite things about visiting new places is seeing the architecture. Those buildings are stunning but I especially love the colorful ones. When we went to Costa Rica it seemed like we couldn't go anywhere without the company of a stray cat. I had so much fun hanging out at the pool because the kitties would curl up in my lap. Glad you're back. Can't wait to hear about the food.
oh my goodness, these photographs are INCREDIBLE!! looks like you definitely had a great trip - I can't wait for the Buenos Aires recap tomorrow!
It looks like you had a wonderful time. What a great looking city! I love the look of the cobble stone streets, and that cafe where you were visited by the kitty looks so cool!
Jeez, looks like a neat trip. And the weather was nice it seems. Lucky :-P
I like the colourful buildings, they look like kindergarden skool :) The picture of the cobblestone streets is very artistic I like!
The cats at my void deck usually mind their own business and will come if they find u interesting or have some food.. hehe.. perhaps I am not pisces :)
Welcome back! What a lovely trip!
I never imagined Buenos Aires looking like Paris and that picture of the light in Uruguay, absolutely tranquil. Thanks for sharing.
And as for those animals coming up to lay down beside you, well, they know an urban vegan when they see one!
Bet Bossa Nova is thrilled to have you home to curl up next to and vice versa.
Beautiful photos! Enjoyed it all, thanks.
What beautiful pictures. Yes, everywhere animal people go we run into cats!
Oh, don't be so modest! What I miss most about Philly are the protests!
And.... wonderful pictures. They really capture the spirit of Buenos Aires as I knew it years ago.

Since I don't have a camera and still try try to illustrate my BsAs blog, I really appreciate your fabulous photos!
And I would love to know more about what you found to eat here; I'm not vegan but still like to have a balanced diet. It ain't easy in Argentina, especially in restaurants with all the same "master menu."
Wonderful post!
Saludos!
beautiful post! i want to go there so much after your gorgeous pictures. i especially loved the architecture pics, of course, but those antique seltzer bottles were beautiful. hope you bought one!
Lucky you are. I'd love so much to go to Argentina, and more than everything in Patagonia. Thanks for sharing !
